Drunk Beaver's Pedal Drop #27 is the superb enhanced Volnovakha take on the Univox Super-Fuzz

I love the blooming harmonics of the Super-Fuzz circuit, yet a lot of those originals are a little underpowered on the output. I prefer vintage-inspired but slightly modernised circuits which have a significantly improved output profile.

This will be my own 25th Super-Fuzz - that’s how much I like the format. And Vitalii has really pulled out all the stops for his version. The original 1968 Super-Fuzz essentially had 3 controls :

Balance (Volume), Expander (Fuzz Amount), Tone Switch : Flat / Scooped.

Vitalii then makes the Tone options fully granular - so you have an additional independent Mids Scoop control, as well as classic Tone control to more finely shape the output.

Controls - Balance, Tone, Scoop, Expander.

The circuit is very much a Univox Super Fuzz at its core. The transistor gain stage is OpAmp-based instead of using typical transistors for that circuit - kind of a mix of Rat & FZ-2. The Tone control blends filtered/unfiltered modes that are represented as a switch on the original Super-Fuzz. 

SCOOP controls how deep a Mids Cut is applied on the filtered path. The output stage has increased impedance and 2x more recovery voltage gain. 

Volnovakha’s Transistors are : 2SC1815 in splitter/gain recovery, and 2SC2458. Then there are Ge AAP-153 Diodes and the OpAamp selected is the UD1408.
