It’s been 8 years since Spaceman released its Atlas III Preamp Booster - then just a single knob affair. While this time around we have 2 x extra 2-way Toggle Switches - the Left Thrust one enhances harmonics when engaged, and the Right Axis one engages a Treble Booster essentially.
Controls - Boost (+15dB >), Thrust (Extra Harmonics) : On/Off, Axis (Treble Booster) : Shift / Origin.
This is a full-fat THT circuit - featuring 7 JFET Transistors and what looks like a single Diode (Asymmetrically clipping therefore) - that’s likely engaged with the Thrust switch!
This doesn’t really threaten my favourite ThorpyFX Heavy Water Dual Boost, but it is a highly appealing candidate - and I’m sorely tempted.
There are 3 versions available - Correction! The £279 Limited Grey version sold out very quickly. While the £249 Black and White Editions will be on general release. For now these are just pre-orders. Looks like everyone is being cautious these days. I actually like the Standard Black version the most - the Limited Grey has a vintage Soviet Big Muff Knob, and one of those vintage LED Lens Caps. I much prefer the jewel style - and for me the amber LED indicates harmonics!
I will wait and see if these come into stock at Andertons - or else I might need to call on my friend Scott Hager at Axe and You Shall Receive.
You can read more about the Atlas IV on the Spaceman Effects Website.
They’ve certainly improved the Atlas further - and it’s now more appealing than ever!
For me it’s always going to be a backup option - but I like the look and sound of this one - and it’s of the highest quality! Would be nice to pick this one up for the collection!
