The Splinter Twin reminds me a touch of the Fjord Fuzz Loke, and Spaceman Effects Meridian - but with quite a few more bells and whistles, and variations onboard.
I simply just watched Ryan Burke’s video - and got instantly smitten, This to my mind is one of he most unusual Delay Line Modulators / Manipulators I’ve seen to date. Cosmodio talks of the Splinter Twin as being a Time Modulator - and Time is obviously the most significant control on the pedal!
"The Splinter Twin Time Modulator is your sonic familiar. It clones your signal, alters that clone in time, pitch, texture, phase and feedback, and then re-combines the altered clone with your original signal to create something altogether new."
You have 3 Voice Options - where the first is a precise copy of your original dry signal. Second is a phase inversion of hat signal, and third gives you more complex Multi-Tap effects.
Then on the other side of the pedal you have 3 different Mod Shapes - Sine, Random and ALT - with the last listed being able to be changed as secondary features and using some internal controls. You can select to have the third modes as either S&H Sample & Hold, Revere Saw (defaul), or Sawtooth.
Here follow the controls :
Controls - Dry>Wet Blend, Volume, Mod Speed, Dark (Wet Filter), Voice : Precise Dry Signal Copy / Phase Inversion / Milti-Tap, Time : Flange > Chorus > Double > Echo, Mod Shape : Sine / Random / Alt [S&H / Recerse Saw (default) / Saw, Preamp Level, Feedback / Repeats, Mod Depth, 2 x Feedback Footswitch, Bypass Footswitch.
Ports : TRS Expression (Time / Mod Speed - internal switch), TS in, 9V DC [-] 200mA, TS Out.
This is a superb signal scrambler and duplicator - and exceptional texturizer - and with so many interesting tones on board - including various Rainbow Machine variants.
This is a super smart device - beautifully engineered. I would of course have loved it to have been Stereo Output - but there’s plenty onboard here to appeal to everyone. You can even run it somewhat more vanilla fashion - while the key interest here is surely in how many throughly unusual and special modulation sounds this device is capable of.
There have been some excellent delays released this year - while this one may very well be my favourite. I’m so looking forward to do my friend Joe Light getting these in stock. Somewhat oddly I have so many intriguing Mono Delays to get in - and this Spinter Twin one is surely the mos intriguing one.
The Splinter Twin is $349 on the Cosmodio Instruments Webstore - and this is likely to be its most successful pedal to date - as delays are always poplar - especially ones that deliver as much as the Splinter Twin - it’s so magical sounding!
