For those that already own the Germanium Have Blue and Tacit Blue Pedals (like me) - the Redacted initially would seem to obsolete those - by providing versions of those 2 circuits in a single compact enclosure.
While those are not the same really - and contain quite different transistors onboard - the Have Blue and Tacit Blue have somewhat softer and smoother 2N-type Germanium Transistors. While the Redacted contains somewhat more aggressive - fierce even - mil-spec Transistors.
Controls - RANGEMASTER } Range, Boost; FUZZ FACE } Smooth (Impedance), Fuzz (Gain), Volume, Bias.
Ports - TS In, 9V DC [-] 10mA, TS Out.
This is all very familiar territory - it’s just the output profile that is somewhat different and distinct.
I often have my controls up quite high on the taper for similar effects - while for the Redacted - it’s already incredibly potent at noon. There is so much range onboard here - which is then further expanded by the RangeMaster side. ’Fierce’ seems to be the only way to best describe this excellent sounding variant.
My preferred setting are - Smooth @ 3 o’c, Fuzz @ 9 o’c, Volume @ 10 o’c, Bias @ 3 o’c, and then Range @ 4 o’c, and Boost @ 10 o’c.
My relatively low settings on many of those dials - aptly demonstrate just how fierce the Redacted can go - my setting are already massive sounding - and the Fuzz and Volume controls are well before noon!

The Boneyard is still my favourite Thorpy Fuzz - while I'm thinking this Redacted and the Hanami are in equal second place currently!
The big question - is that if I already had the Redacted at the time - would I have been quite to keen to get in the Have Blue and Tacit Blue. On balance though - I'm kind of glad I own all 3 as the precvious pairing has quite a different output profile - and I like each of those for different reasons and slightly different applications.
I'm not that enamoured with the artwork of the pedal - while I really like the red and white mix of knobs. I don't mind the artwork really - but feel it could have been more attractive. Thorpy's most attractive pedals are still the all-purple limited Dane, and the Hanami - which were both out at a similar time.
I really like the tone-on-tone styling of that gorgeous Dane - Thorpy should do more of those one-colour all-over-coverage pedals. Ideally he should also improve the styling of the Redacted artwork - everything else about that pedal is pure class.
The Redacted Germanium Fuzz Face and RangeMaster can be yours for £350 and equivalent - from the ThorpyFX Webstore. It's definitely been worth it for me - and I think this Fuzz Face takes me over the 110 mark - a nice way to book-end that collection.
